Michael Dowling

Michael Dowling is the President and CEO of Northwell Health, New York's largest healthcare provider and largest private employer. An immigrant from rural Ireland, Michael's journey began with manual labor on the docks of Manhattan, construction sites, and custodial work while putting himself through college at Fordham University.

 

After serving in New York State government as Commissioner of Social Services and leading Health and Human Services under Governor Mario Cuomo, he joined North Shore Hospital, where he helped transform a single hospital into the integrated healthcare system now known as Northwell Health.

 

Under his leadership, the organization has grown into one of the nation's most respected health systems, recognized for innovation, collaboration, and patient-centered care.

Michael believes that leadership is about inspiring people, building trust, and creating a culture where teams can thrive together. He advocates for long-term thinking, relentless optimism, and viewing setbacks as opportunities to learn rather than reasons to quit.
